Maui Sunset – Orange County Photographer

I’ve been off the grid for most of the summer – some of it planned, some of it, not so much.

I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things and editing some of the shots that I’ve taken over the past few months.

This one is from our recent trip to Maui. I live in Orange County – in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the country – but boy, are those Hawaiian sunsets incredible!

I didn’t get great sunset weather (not as many clouds as I would have liked) but this one was as close as it came.

Elizabeth Esther & Family Photo Shoot – Irvine Family Photographer

So you really have to love the magic of social media.

When I first started my business, I did all the requisite signups for social media – Facebook, Twitter… then eventually Instagram. I never really developed a social media “strategy” (I know, it’s on my list of things to do), but I decided that for Twitter, I really wanted to follow strong, interesting women, many of whom lived right here in Orange County.

I started having fun conversations with many of these women (in 140 characters or less), and eventually became friends with some of them. One of my friends discovered through Twitter is Kelly Lewis of According To Kelly and Just Spotted OC. Kelly ended up hiring me to do a super fun Valentine’s shoot for her family (you can see it here).  Kelly is friends with Elizabeth Esther who is this crazy smart, really funny and wickedly-great writer (her blog is here). Elizabeth saw Kelly’s pictures and she ended up hiring me to do a family shoot for her.

Elizabeth is one of these women who you instantly want to sit down and have coffee with (which by the way, is also on my to do list) :-).  She has an incredibly warm and welcoming vibe about her, and if you read her blog or anything of hers on social media, you know how engaging and passionate she is. She and her wonderful husband are the parents of FIVE beautiful children. Normally when I know I’m shooting a family with five kids, I get ready to work HARD. But these kids are simply awesome and they made my job easy that day.

I should add that Elizabeth asked for some head shots of herself for her new book that will be coming out soon (how cool is that?). I think you will agree that she looks pretty darn beautiful in all of them.

Thanks Elizabeth & Family!!!

The Best Mother’s Day Gift – Orange County Photographer

Have you ever stopped to think what your wife/mom/grandmother/daughter really wants for Mother’s Day? I can almost guarantee that somewhere on her list is having a beautiful photo of her kids to display. Maybe it’s a photo with her and her kids, or maybe it’s one with her husband and her kids.

Either way, it’s pretty simple… A MOM WILL ALWAYS LOVE A PICTURE OF HER FAMILY.

If you’re still looking for that perfect gift, I am offering Mother’s Day gift certificates with discounted pricing for the next two days. The certificate will be good for a 30-minute outdoor shoot at an Orange County location of your choice and a 16×24 canvas gallery wrap for whichever image you love the most. All for $300.

And to all those wonderful mothers out there, I wish you the happiest, and most relaxing Mother’s Day possible!

Presley’s First Birthday – Laguna Family Photographer

I was so excited to take pictures of this little cutie pie — not only have I been DYING to meet her, but she was turning the big ONE years old which is such an incredibly fun age for kids!

Tiffany and Cameron are such great parents, and Presley is just a huge sweetheart. I will say that she made me work VERY hard to get any smiles from her (which I secretly adore), and she was so much fun to follow around with my camera. She’s at that age where everything is so interesting… that said, the party was a bit overwhelming for her, but she seemed to have a blast (except for the cake…. she didn’t like the cake!). 🙂

This was a hard post because I literally had SO many fun shots of Presley! She is just too darn cute!

Thanks so much Tiffany and Cameron! It was an honor to be a part of such a wonderful day for your family…. xoxoxo!

This is the cake topper that Tiffany had on her 1st birthday cake! Isn’t that awesome?!

Love this one… everyone was blowing bubbles and she was pretending to blow them too!

NOT a fan of the cake at all!!

I think this face pretty much says it all. She was definitely done and wanted that frosting off of her!

This is probably one of my favorite shots of all time! I just LOVE the mommy-daughter love between them. Just so awesome…

Yay! We really got her smiling! 🙂

LOVE LOVE LOVE this sequence of shots! I have a ton more… It was so hard to choose!

Embrace Your Unique Artistic Style – Orange County Photography

I’ve been decorating our living room over the past few weeks (and it’s about time since we moved in almost exactly one year ago). One of the things we realized when we moved into our new home was that we really wanted to fill the walls with things that are MEANINGFUL to us. Things that we love, that tell a story, that we LOVE.

Don’t get me wrong… I have a crazy addiction to Kirkland’s Home and Home Goods like most people… but I was falling into the trap of putting up art that “matched” the space rather than putting up things that matched US.

I am almost done with my decorating (maybe), and one of the last things I did was to put up a collection of industrial/rustic shots I took a while back and have been wanting to have printed. I printed them on metallic paper (and I completely broke my rule of not framing anything printed on metallic). And I love them.

I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with things (and people for that matter) that make you happy. It doesn’t matter what it costs, who made it, where it came from. If it makes you happy, put it up on your walls, out on a table, etc. Don’t hide it in a drawer. Don’t be afraid to display it.

Is this type of photography what you would hang in your home? Maybe… maybe not. The point is to pick what’s uniquely you. What reflects your style, your creativity, your vision. No matter what it is, just find a way to make it your own.

Embrace your artistic style and you will be rewarded everyday with little spaces around you that bring you a little bit of joy everyday.
